“The spirit of Jenocik”, acrylics on canvas, 2022

I believe we’re destined to meet certain souls at specific times in our lives. Jenocik came into my life at a time when I felt devastated after a sudden personal loss. He was very distrustful at first and it took him several months to start warming up to me. Once he opened up, he showed his true nature: affectionate, caring, loving. He was my true companion, a velcro cat who needed to be close at all times. Sadly, our time together turned out limited, as Jenocik suffered from a kidney condition that ended his life after spending 3.5 beautiful years with me. I believe his spirit is still out there, floating peacefully in the lands of milky rivers and sunny spots for naps.
“Grief”, acrylics on canvas, 2022

In 2022 I experienced a great personal loss. My partner, a person whom I’d known for over a decade, had died in a tragic accident. The life I had known fell apart and left me devastated. As I moved through grief, I started imagining holding my heart in my hands, trying to protect it from any possible harm. Painting this vision took several months and it was a deeply personal process that helped me move toward healing.
